How is Valley Waterfowl different from other organizations ?

Valley Waterfowl is a new concept in waterfowl conservation. Our goals are to improve habitat and wetlands for waterfowl on the local level. This is done to help increase the numbers of local ducks and geese. As we all know, local waterfowl populations are very important to conservationists and hunters alike. While conservation is an important part of our organization, we also are concerned with the lack of quality hunting places available to sportsman. We feel that hunting opportunities should be increased and our hunting heritage preserved. In order to do this we plan to acquire our own lands for both habitat improvement and to allow increased hunting opportunities for our members on a draw basis. Since we are a fairly new organization, this may be some time down the road. So what we have done beginning with the 2005 - 2006 season is to lease property which is available to our members for hunting on a draw basis.

How does the hunting access work ?

Valley Waterfowl gave away several donated hunts to our members during our first year. However, as of the 2005 - 2006 waterfowl season, we have leased property that will be available  to our members for hunting on a draw basis. To be eligible for the hunts, current members must complete a drawing application with the requested dates indicated. There is no additional fee required and all members may apply for the hunts. A signed release of liability form is also required for each person who will be present during the hunt. Only one application per hunter per day will be accepted. Multiple applications for the same date, incomplete applications, and applications which do not include the signed and completed release of liability waivers will be discarded. All drawing applications must be received at least 15 days prior to the hunt date.

What happens to my membership money ?

Your money works to support all of our projects, some of which include nesting projects, habitat improvement, predator control, and to help incorporate the hunting aspect of our organization. Valley Waterfowl does not have any paid employees or staff as everyone works on a voluntary basis. This helps to ensure that our donations are going directly to support our projects and goals.

As a member how can I contribute to Valley Waterfowl ?

Valley Waterfowl encourages the involvement of our members. While there is no requirement to be involved in any of the projects, we can always use the extra support whenever available. Members can become involved in any number of ways such as starting a chapter in your local area, recruiting new members, assisting with the construction and maintenance of our nesting huts and wood duck boxes, helping to organize events, locating donors and sponsors, and identifying areas that could benefit from habitat improvement.
